The Simcoe County Branch obtained its Charter, becoming an Ontario Ancestors Branch in Feb., 1983. Located in Central Ontario, just north of Toronto, Simcoe County is the largest county in Ontario. The Branch mission statement says, we “encourage, bring together and assist those interested in the pursuit of genealogy and family history in Simcoe County”. Our focus is to preserve information that will be useful for anyone researching their Simcoe County ancestors. We also provide a sound base for researchers who have ancestors in other areas as well. The Branches extensive non circulating Library collection is housed in the Downtown Branch of the Barrie Public Library and is accessible to all. In normal times, Branch meetings featuring guest speakers are held the first Saturday of the month between Sept. and June. Currently, they are being via Zoom. Check the Branch website for details and join in on the learning. Better yet, join the Branch take advantage of our member benefits.
