Tips for a Great Conference Experience

Get prepared!

  • Aren’t familiar with a speaker?
    • Read the session description to better understand the topic
    • Perhaps challenge yourself to watch a session you wouldn’t normally choose, you might find a new resource to break down that brick wall!
    • Check to see if there’s a video or speaker review on the website – there are dozens to choose from
  • FAQs – Frequently Asked Questions
  • Plan to be comfortable – they can be long days!
    • Pick your best location for watching, and get your device set up
    • Have a selection of beverages and snacks available to sustain you
    • Get up and stretch between sessions or during them if your set-up allows
  • Check the schedule and decide which sessions you want to:
    • Watch live
    • Watch later – for those on this list, schedule a time to watch so you don’t forget or miss the end of July deadline.
    • All sessions will be recorded, and available within a couple of days for viewing until July 31st – included in your conference fee!
  • Each session will have a unique Zoom log-in. You will receive information for accessing sessions in an email before conference begins.
    • I keep a separate list of the talks so I can just copy and paste the link in at the appropriate time.
  • Plan to log into each session a couple of minutes early to get your Zoom ready to roll – see the Zoom Help page.
  • Have specific questions you hope to get answered?
    • Write them up in advance, and be prepared to copy or type them into the Zoom Chat for each session
    • The Zoom Chat will be summarized for each talk, so keep an eye on the blog!
  • Syllabus – or is that Syllabi? – for the Sessions – will be available for download from the Conference page.
  • Pace yourself – that is one of the benefits of a virtual conference – if you’re tired, take a break!
  • Check out Expo Hall in advance, and make a list of vendors you would like to visit. Then take time to visit their websites and make contact. Don’t forget to check for any specials they may be offering!
