Are you ready to go beyond family history?
The Guild of One-Name Studies is a community of genealogists and family historians, who focus on studying a single surname (sometimes with variant spellings). We collect, investigate and analyse all bearers of that surname, wherever or whenever they may be found. You will find us using traditional family tree reconstruction as well as advanced DNA techniques in our studies.
You don’t need to register a surname to become a member. In fact, one-name study techniques can be of invaluable assistance in other areas of genealogy – you’d be surprised how many brick walls you can break down using ONS methods!
The Guild provides its members with opportunities to learn, to preserve their work (including free website hosting), and to collaborate with others.
We aim to inform and encourage anyone who is interested in one-name research and regularly offer seminars and webinars on a diverse range of topics – all are welcome to attend.
If you are intrigued about one-name studies, then we offer a regular email newsletter where you can learn more. We will send you details of our events and opportunities, and as a thank you for signing up you will receive a PDF copy of our booklet “Researching Surnames: a guide to one-name studies”
