This talk will look at how oral histories can be used to advance our family history research.
When we think of an inheritance, we often focus more on the physical objects such as photos and artefacts. But family stories are our most precious inheritance and the most easily lost. They are part of our intangible heritage and something we often overlook when thinking about our legacy. What is the best way to collect some of these stories and keep them safe for future generations? Do we need specialist training or equipment? This talk will offer advice based on my experiences working as an oral historian and will provide examples from Ireland and international collections.
